The editorial team of the Malaysian Online Journal of Educational Technology (MOJET) is responsible for ensuring the quality, integrity, transparency, and scholarly contribution of all published content. Editors are expected to uphold the highest standards of academic publishing and publication ethics throughout the editorial process.

Editor in Chief Responsibilities

The Editor in Chief has overall responsibility for the journal's editorial policies, peer review process, publication quality, and ethical standards.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Defining and maintaining the journal's editorial policies and publication standards.
  • Ensuring that submitted manuscripts receive fair, objective, and timely evaluations.
  • Making final publication decisions based on scholarly merit, reviewer recommendations, and editorial assessment.
  • Safeguarding the integrity and independence of the peer review process.
  • Promoting ethical publishing practices and adherence to international publication standards.

Initial Editorial Screening (Desk Review)

All submissions undergo an initial editorial assessment before being sent for peer review.

During this stage, manuscripts may be returned to authors or declined if they:

  • Fall outside the aims and scope of the journal.
  • Do not comply with the journal's formatting and submission requirements.
  • Demonstrate insufficient originality, novelty, or scholarly contribution.
  • Contain serious methodological weaknesses.
  • Present inadequate academic writing or organization that prevents effective peer review.
  • Raise concerns regarding research ethics, plagiarism, duplicate publication, or academic integrity.

The purpose of the desk review is to ensure that only manuscripts meeting the journal's minimum quality standards proceed to external review.

Editorial Evaluation Criteria

Editors should evaluate manuscripts based on the following criteria:

Scope and Relevance

  • Relevance to educational technology and related fields.
  • Potential interest to the journal's readership.

Originality and Contribution

  • Novelty of the research question, approach, or findings.
  • Contribution to existing knowledge and practice.

Theoretical Foundation

  • Clear articulation of the research problem.
  • Adequate review of relevant literature.
  • Strong justification for the study.
  • Appropriate integration of previous research.

Methodological Quality

  • Suitability of research design and methods.
  • Transparency of procedures and analyses.
  • Validity and reliability of instruments and findings.

Results and Interpretation

  • Clarity and accuracy of reported findings.
  • Appropriate interpretation of results.
  • Alignment between findings, discussion, and conclusions.

References and Supporting Materials

  • Relevance, accuracy, and currency of references.
  • Compliance with APA 7th Edition guidelines.
  • Adequacy of supplementary materials when applicable.

Ethical Obligations of Editors

Editors should:

  • Evaluate manuscripts solely on their academic merit, regardless of the authors' nationality, ethnicity, gender, institutional affiliation, seniority, religion, or personal characteristics.
  • Ensure a fair, objective, and confidential review process.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest and recuse themselves when impartiality may be compromised.
  • Protect the confidentiality of manuscripts and reviewer identities.
  • Take appropriate action when concerns arise regarding plagiarism, data fabrication, duplicate publication, authorship disputes, or other ethical issues.
  • Respect the intellectual independence and academic freedom of authors.
  • Base editorial decisions exclusively on scholarly merit and journal standards.

Section Editors

Section Editors support the editorial process by managing manuscripts within their areas of expertise.

Their responsibilities include:

  • Conducting an initial assessment of assigned manuscripts.
  • Identifying and inviting qualified reviewers.
  • Monitoring the progress of the peer review process.
  • Evaluating reviewer reports and making editorial recommendations.
  • Communicating revision requests and reviewer comments to authors.
  • Assessing revised submissions and determining whether reviewer concerns have been adequately addressed.
  • Recommending acceptance, further revision, or rejection to the Editor in Chief.

Ethical Obligations of Section Editors

Section Editors are expected to:

  • Maintain objectivity and impartiality throughout the review process.
  • Protect the confidentiality of manuscripts and reviewer reports.
  • Avoid conflicts of interest and disclose any circumstances that may affect editorial judgment.
  • Treat all authors fairly and consistently.
  • Promote transparency, research integrity, and ethical publishing practices.
  • Respect the intellectual independence and scholarly contributions of authors.

Editorial Ethics and Best Practices

MOJET follows internationally recognized publication ethics principles and endorses the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). All editors are expected to uphold these principles and contribute to maintaining the quality, credibility, and reputation of the journal.
